Mental Health Awareness Month: The Role of Wellness in Mental Health

Hi, my name is Janet Reuben Okon.
I am a Writer, Inspirational, Lifestyle, Health & Wellness Blogger and Human Anatomist.

Art of True Zeal Blog is a Health and Wellness Blog. Being a part of Mental Health Awareness Month 2025 is one of my greatest joy 💕. These are the articles I’ve published for mental health awareness month:

I thought about “wellness” being our last blog post for Mental Health Awareness Month because this will be an active reminder for us to always take good care of our mental health daily ❤️ ✨

Today, I will be your health and wellness educator and consultant and we will discuss The Role of Wellness in Mental Health 🎉

Wellness is the act of practicing healthy daily habits to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, so that instead of just surviving, you’re thriving.

I say this very often and I’ll say it again, I can’t imagine my university life without taking good care of myself 😭❤️

🌟It helps to manage stress and anxiety and improve mental health.
🌟It helps to improve our sleep quality.
🌟It helps to prevent the development of chronic diseases and other health issues.
🌟It makes us able to cope with life’s challenges and thrive in life.
🌟It makes us aware of our strengths and abilities.
🌟It enables us to work productively.
🌟It helps to build a healthy relationship with our family, friends and colleagues.
🌟It enables us to grow in career as well as in life.
🌟It can foster a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Being open about my mental health is as a result of how I’ve been able to practice wellness over the years. Incorporating wellness into my life began from the little matters of my heart into a plan and with consistent practice, it has made me who I am today ❤️

🎉 Create time to pray and study daily: Praying and studying daily makes you understand life better, empowers you to handle life challenges healthier and improves your mental health.
🎊Eat a healthy diet: This means a diet that maintains or improves your mental health. This also means reducing excessive sugary food and drinks.
🎉Exercise regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
🎊Get enough sleep: Most adults need about 7–8 hours of sleep per night.
🎉Avoid cigarettes and other harmful substances.
🎊Manage stress: Find healthy ways to manage stress such as rest, deep breathing.

🎉Rest: I discussed more on ‘Rest’ in my blog post, “How to navigate and recover from Burnout”. Here’s the blog link:

🎊Build a community: Spend quality time with your family, friends and loved ones.
🎉Journaling: Journaling has helped me identify unhealthy habits and enabled me to practice wellness, which has greatly improved my mental health.
🎊Create a schedule or structure that will enable you to plan better for the day, week, month, or year: This will make you feel less tensed or worried about the new day, week, month, or year and generally improve your mental health.
🎉Create a healthy habit and lifestyle: Practice good health habits now, and you will be strong, energetic and enthusiastic about life.

🎊 Do what makes you happy: I enjoy & love blogging and it makes me happy. This has enabled me to be vulnerable, intentional, transparent and take good care of my mental health 🥰.
🎉Introspection: Get to know who you are. Pay attention to your own needs and feelings. Identify your abilities and weaknesses, build on them, and do the best with what you have.
🎊Create a financial budget: Plan and budget for your daily, weekly, monthly, yearly needs and wants.
🎉Volunteer for a good course: Being involved in a community gives a sense of purpose and satisfaction.
🎊Practice and apply what you’ve learned about the role of vulnerability, intentional living, transparency and wellness in mental health in your homes, community, workplace, school.
🎉Share this post with your parents, siblings, niece, nephew, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparents, friends, colleagues, neighbour and strangers.
🎊Share your story: Do you know anyone who finds it difficult to be vulnerable, intentional, honest and take good care of their mental health? Please share this article with them and let’s keep the conversation going. Thank you.
